This serene and radiant portrait of St. Scholastica captures the beauty of a soul wholly consecrated to God. Clothed in the dark veil and habit of a Benedictine nun, she holds a gold cross and wears a medallion of the Holy Spirit, as a gentle white dove hovers beside her—symbolizing her final moments of prayerful union with heaven. A single white flower rests between her lips, evoking purity, peace, and contemplative love.
Behind her, the hills of Monte Cassino rise softly, recalling her spiritual closeness to her twin brother, St. Benedict. This artwork invites a deep reflection on spiritual friendship, the power of intercessory prayer, and the quiet radiance of a hidden life lived for God.
Short Biography:
St. Scholastica was born in 480 AD and was the twin sister of St. Benedict of Nursia, founder of Western monasticism. She dedicated her life to God from an early age and became the foundress of a community of nuns near Monte Cassino. Known for her deep love of prayer and her spiritual wisdom, she famously prayed for a storm to prolong her final conversation with her brother—an act that showed her intimacy with the Lord.
She died just days later, and Benedict saw her soul ascend to heaven in the form of a white dove. Scholastica is remembered as a model of contemplative life, sisterly love, and prayerful power.
