Short Biography:

St. Rose of Lima (1586–1617) was born in Lima, Peru, and chose a life of prayer, fasting, and virginity from a young age. A member of the Third Order of St. Dominic, she lived at home in a garden cell where she performed severe penances and received mystical visions of Christ. She often wore a crown of thorns under her veil as an offering of love.

Rose ministered to the sick and the poor in her neighborhood, offering everything she had in union with the sufferings of Jesus. She died at just 31 years old and was canonized in 1671 as the first saint of the Americas.
