This luminous portrait of St. Martin de Porres reflects the quiet dignity, radiant humility, and healing presence of one of the Church’s most beloved saints. Dressed in his Dominican habit with a golden-trimmed scapular, Martin holds a simple broom—his symbol of joyful service and deep interior holiness.
Behind him, colonial churches and Peruvian hills speak to his homeland and legacy. The golden halo shines with warmth and sanctity, reminding us that greatness in the Kingdom of God comes through lowliness and love. This artwork invites reflection on hidden virtue, charity for the poor, and the power of God at work through the simplest acts of kindness.
Short Biography:
St. Martin de Porres was born in Lima, Peru in 1579, the son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed African slave. Faced with racial discrimination, he became a Dominican lay brother and lived a life of profound humility. He served as barber, cook, infirmarian, and porter—but God also gave him miraculous gifts of healing, bilocation, and communion with animals.
He cared for all, regardless of status or race, and is a model of Christian charity, unity, and social justice. Canonized in 1962, he remains a powerful intercessor for the marginalized and forgotten.
