$5.00
Rendered in luminous Renaissance realism with delicate watercolor warmth, this portrait of Saint Jerome captures the scholar-saint deep in contemplation. His weathered hands rest upon Scripture, quill and ink ready, as the gentle lion — his lifelong companion in legend — keeps watch beside him. The skull, book, and pen symbolize his meditation on mortality and the eternal Word. The composition glows in rich golds and crimsons, framed by ornate flourishes that evoke a sacred manuscript brought to life.
Saint Jerome ( c. 347 – 420 AD ) was born in Stridon, near Dalmatia. A gifted linguist, he mastered Latin, Greek, and Hebrew and devoted his life to translating the Scriptures. His crowning achievement, the Vulgate, became the standard Latin Bible of the Western Church for more than a millennium. From his hermitage in Bethlehem, Jerome guided the faithful through letters of fierce intellect and profound humility.
“Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.” – St. Jerome
