St. Clare of Assisi - Defender of the Eucharist
Catholic Digital Art Download
$5.00
Clothed in the humble robes of a Poor Clare and crowned with radiant holiness, St. Clare of Assisi stands on the monastery balcony, bearing the Sacred Host in a golden monstrance. With eyes full of serenity and resolve, she gazes forward—not in fear, but in faith. Behind her, the landscape of Assisi fades into the mist, while the light of Christ shines through her hands.
This artwork immortalizes the moment she held up the Eucharist to repel invaders from her convent—not with sword or shield, but with the power of the Real Presence.
Short Biography:
St. Clare of Assisi (1194–1253) was a noblewoman who renounced wealth to follow St. Francis in radical poverty and devotion to Christ. She founded the Order of Poor Ladies, later called the Poor Clares, and lived a cloistered life of intense prayer, silence, and fasting.
One of her most famous moments came when Saracen mercenaries stormed Assisi. As they approached her monastery, Clare rose from her sickbed, took the Blessed Sacrament, and held it aloft at the convent gates. The attackers fled in fear. She remained a Eucharistic soul until her peaceful death, having seen the Host as her fortress and Bridegroom.
