Short Biography:
St. Cándida María de Jesús (1845–1912), born Juana Josefa Cipitria y Barriola in Andoain, Spain, was a humble Basque woman who responded to God's call to serve the poor and educate young girls. Guided by a deep trust in Divine Providence, she founded the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus in 1871.
Her charism was centered on the Sacred Heart, simplicity of life, and the spiritual and academic formation of youth. Her motto, “Where there is no room for the poor, neither is there room for me,” remains a testament to her radical love for the marginalized.
She was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010 and continues to inspire religious and lay educators around the world.
