St. Anthony of Padua wasn’t just the saint of lost things—he was a fearless defender of the Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament.

While preaching in Rimini, a stubborn heretic named Bononillo challenged St. Anthony: “If your God is truly present in the Eucharist, prove it with a miracle.”

Anthony agreed. The test?

Bononillo starved his mule for 3 days. On the final day, he placed hay on one side of the square—while St. Anthony stood on the other, holding the Blessed Sacrament.

Before the eyes of a massive crowd, the hungry mule ignored the hay, walked over to the monstrance, and knelt in adoration.

Even the animal recognized its Creator.

Bononillo repented and returned to the Church—proving once again that truth bows to Christ, and so do all creation.
