This ultra-lifelike portrait depicts Saint Isaac Jogues (1607–1646), the courageous Jesuit missionary who brought the Gospel to the wilderness of 17th-century North America. Shown in deep prayer, Father Jogues holds a wooden cross close to his face, his expression peaceful yet resolute. The golden ornate halo behind him reflects his sanctity, while the pine-covered landscape of the Canadian frontier symbolizes his mission among the Huron and Iroquois peoples.

Saint Isaac Jogues endured unimaginable suffering — captured, tortured, and enslaved by Mohawk warriors, he remained steadfast in his love and forgiveness. Even after returning to France, he sought permission to return to the same land and people who had once brutalized him, ultimately giving his life as a martyr for Christ.

This portrait captures the serenity of his soul and his unwavering faith — love stronger than fear, and forgiveness deeper than pain.

Short Biography:
Born in Orléans, France, Saint Isaac Jogues entered the Jesuits with a heart set on mission. Sent to New France in 1636, he lived among the Huron, learning their language and sharing the Gospel with gentleness and humility. Captured in 1642, he was tortured and maimed but never lost his compassion for his captors. After returning to France and receiving permission from Pope Urban VIII to celebrate Mass despite his mutilated hands, he courageously returned to the mission field and was martyred in 1646.
