Short Biography:
Pope St. Gregory VII (c. 1025–1085), born Hildebrand of Sovana, was one of the most influential popes of the Middle Ages. He led the Gregorian Reforms, defending the freedom of the Church against secular interference, most notably through the Investiture Controversy with Emperor Henry IV.
