St. Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274) was a Dominican friar, theologian, philosopher, and Doctor of the Church. A master of scholastic thought, his Summa Theologica remains one of the most important theological texts ever written. Known for his humility, clarity, and devotion to truth, Thomas synthesized faith and reason in defense of the Catholic tradition. He was canonized in 1323 and declared Doctor of the Church in 1567.
